A total of 1,066 detainees, including 67 women, were evacuated from Oddar Meanchey Provincial Prison on the night of Monday, December 8, due to the high risk posed by bomb and artillery attacks from ongoing Thai assaults.

The prisoners will continue their detention at Siem Reap Provincial Prison. The transfer operation was completed safely at around 4am on December 9, using 32 vehicles and 221 security personnel, according to a December 9 statement from the Ministry of Interior.

The operation was led by General Chhorn Sanath, director-general of the General Department of Prisons (GDP), in cooperation with the National Police and provincial authorities.

In Oddar Meanchey province, Thai artillery rounds landed inside a kindergarten, as heavy shelling spread to at least three provinces. Senate president Hun Sen announced this morning that the time for patience is over, and Cambodian troops will now engage the enemy.
