A concrete wall along a stream in Takeo province has been demolished, following an order from the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology.

The 148-metre wall along the Slakou Stream, in Trapaing Pur village, of Tram Kak district’s Cheang Tong commune, was the subject of several public complaints.

Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology Thor Chetha inspected the site this morning, October 13, and determined that it breached laws governing the distance from shorelines and riverbanks for such structures.

The company that built the wall were given 14 days to remove it and told that they must build at least 30 metres from the water’s edge. They chose to begin demolition immediately.

This evening, Takeo provincial governor Vei Samnang confirmed that the wall had been completely dismantled.

The water resources ministry highlighted Article 8 of the Sub-Decree on River Basin Management, which sets buffer distances from for construction near banks and shorelines in river basin areas.
