Indonesia has expanded education opportunities for Cambodian students through the Indonesia Aid Scholarship (TIAS) programme following the signing of a new grant agreement between the two governments, paving the way for increased academic cooperation and people-to-people ties.
The agreement was signed on December 30 by Minister of Education, Youth and Sport Hang Chuon Naron on behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia.
According to the Indonesian Embassy to Cambodia: “The move allows Cambodian students to apply for the 2026-2027 academic intake, with applications expected to open between February and March 2026.”
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Indonesian Ambassador to Cambodia Santo Darmosumarto, who encouraged Cambodian students to take full advantage of the scholarship opportunities offered by the Indonesian government and its higher education institutions.
“The TIAS program will play a key role in strengthening human resource development in Cambodia and fostering deeper connections between the two nations,” Santo said.
He expressed confidence that academic exchanges under the programme would help build lasting people-to-people ties between Cambodian and Indonesian youth.
The Indonesia Aid Scholarship is designed to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in the education sector.
Rooted in the spirit of the Asia-Africa Summit, the programme aims to nurture future leaders from Indonesia’s priority partner countries, including Cambodia.
Under TIAS, Cambodian government officials and candidates nominated by the Cambodian government are eligible to pursue bachelor’s and master’s degrees as well as diplomas at Indonesian universities and polytechnic institutions.
Fields of study include economics – such as accounting, management and development studies – as well as medical sciences, law, informatics and engineering.
The scholarship is fully funded, covering academic costs and essential living expenses to ensure recipients can focus on their studies while adapting to life in Indonesia.
The current TIAS programme will run until 31 December 2030, with new scholarship intakes offered annually. Further information is available at the official website: https://tias.kemenkeu.go.id/.
