Cambodian police and specialists from the Child Protection Unit (CPU) are investigating the death of a young boy whose body was found dead in a vacant lot along National Road 6, in Bak Kheng village, Prek Leap commune, Chroy Changvar district, Phnom Penh.
The CPU reported today, January 17, that the body of the boy, aged approximately 4 to 5 years old, was discovered yesterday, at around 12 noon.
Specialized police officers, including personnel from the Technical and Scientific Office of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police and criminal investigation officers, together with a team from the Child Protection Unit (CPU), arrived promptly at the scene to support the investigation.
“Without delay, a forensic examination was conducted at the scene and on the child’s body. At the initial stage, this case has been classified as a suspicious child death, and the investigation is being carried out with great care,” said the CPU.
The authorities are urgently seeking information from members of the public who may have witnessed suspicious activity near the scene, who may know of any reports of a missing child in their area, or who may have any leads — no matter how small — that could assist the police investigation.
The organisation has appealed to the public to provide any information related to the case by contacting the nearest local police station or directly reaching the Child Protection Unit (CPU) via its website:
https://childprotectionunit.org/report-a-child-crime-1, or through its Facebook page, CPU Cambodia.
All information provided will be kept strictly confidential.
Public cooperation in this case is critically important for determining the truth and ensuring justice for the child victim, added the unit. The CPU arranged a traditional funeral ceremony on the evening of January 16, at Wat Botum Bak Kheng, so that the child’s spirit may rest in peace.
