The Ministry of National Defence, in coordination with the ASEAN Interim Observer Team (IOT), dispatched a field mission late on Saturday night to Banteay Meanchey province’s Chok Chey and Prey Chan villages, following reports that loudspeakers from the Thai side were broadcasting disturbing “haunted sounds” across the border.
According to the ministry, the investigators arrived at the scene of the psychological operations, in O’Beichon commune, Ou Chrov district. At approximately 11pm last night, October 11.
after Cambodian authorities received complaints from residents who said they heard noises resembling coming from Thai territory.
Villagers reported that the sounds, including ghosts, as well as barking and howling dogs, had frightened many, particularly the elderly, children, and persons with disabilities, disrupting sleep and causing distress throughout the night.
The IOT’s visit aimed to verify the situation on the ground and assess whether the broadcast was a deliberate act intended to unsettle Cambodian communities living near the border.
The ministry moted that the findings from the mission will be documented and shared through appropriate diplomatic and monitoring channels to ensure that the issue is addressed through peaceful and lawful means.

It reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to maintaining calm and stability along the border, urging its citizens to remain patient while authorities handle the matter through proper mechanisms.
