Cambodia’s three international airports handled more than 5.6 million domestic and international travellers during the first 10 months of the year, a positive sign for the recovery of the tourism sector, while the number of flights and newly added international airlines to Cambodia has continued to rise.

According to the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), from January to October, Techo International Airport, Siem Reap–Angkor International Airport and Sihanouk International Airport handled 52,954 incoming and outgoing flights, an increase of 12% compared to the same period in 2024.

The report further noted that the three international airports processed 5,665,129 air passengers (round-trip), a 14% increase. Meanwhile, air freight totalled 74,912 tonnes, up 14% compared to the same 10-month period in 2024.

SSCA spokesperson Sinn Chansereyvutha told The Post that all relevant government institutions are working together to secure additional new flight connections to further boost the tourism industry.

“We are making efforts through our respective roles— the government conducts negotiations to open air routes and authorise new flight connections to Cambodia, while airport operators work to expand their market by country and by airport. The Ministry of Tourism fulfils its role in attracting tourists to fly into Cambodia,” he explained.

Chhay Sivlin, president of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents, said the growth in air passengers is a positive sign for the tourism sector. She hoped to see even more flight connections to make Cambodia’s skies even more open to the world. She added that air transport plays an extremely important role.

“For Cambodia’s tourism sector, we want to have as many direct flights into the country as possible so that we can attract tourists from all destinations,” she said.

According to the SSCA, in November there were 34 airlines (4 domestic and 30 international) operating regular flights through the three international airports.

The report showed that the three airports together handled 1,320 flights per week: Techo International Airport handled 890, Siem Reap–Angkor International Airport, 368, and Sihanouk International Airport, 60.

The government has announced new airlines and routes this year, including Turkish Airlines (Istanbul–Phnom Penh), IndiGo (Kolkata–Siem Reap) and Firefly Airlines (Kuala Lumpur–Siem Reap).

It is also expected that T’way and Air Busan airlines will begin operations in Cambodia by the end of 2025.
