The Fulbright and Undergraduate State Alumni Association of Cambodia (FUSAAC) has announced this year’s Major and Career Fair 2025, one of the country’s largest education and career flagship events.

The event will take place on Saturday, September 13, at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) Conference Hall in Phnom Penh.

The organisers explained that the fair is designed not only to help students choose the right majors but also to prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of the rapidly changing labour market.

Interactive booths from leading Cambodian universities, career talk shows, skill-building workshops and expert-led panel discussions will feature across three main zones: the Education Zone, the Career Zone and the Exhibition Hall.

“This is not an ordinary fair, as it has many activities, including exhibitions, presentations, workshops and panel discussions with experts from each field,” said Chea Sreymom, a member of the organising team.

“When students participate, they can learn more about subjects that interest them — such as food chemistry — while also hearing from former students who studied abroad on prestigious scholarships,” she added.

The concept note highlights the fair’s relevance to Cambodia’s transition from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0, with a focus on equipping youth with the digital, technical and soft skills needed in fields such as automation, robotics and data warehousing.

A survey of more than 100 students revealed that over 60 per cent lack a clear career plan, with each of the secondary school students surveyed wanting to pursue higher education but fearing choosing the wrong major.

The programme supports several national strategies, including the National TVET Policy (2017–2025), under the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, and the Economic and Social Policy (2021–2035), led by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.

By enhancing counselling, promoting labour market information and raising awareness about ICT and creative industries, the fair aims to align youth potential with national development needs.

This year’s fair also carries a special national message. Amid Cambodia’s ongoing border tensions, all ticket proceeds will be donated to frontline troops and displaced families through TYDA and the Cambodian Girl Scouts.

Organisers said this gesture reflects solidarity and support for peace and national resilience.

The event, which runs from 9am to 6pm, will be presided over by first lady Pich Chanmony, general commissariat of the Girl Guides Association of Cambodia and vice-president of the Samdech Techo Youth Volunteer Doctors Association (TYDA), Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, Bridgette L. Walker, chargé d’affaires a.i. of the US embassy, and Sou Jolyda, president of FUSAAC.

More than 2,500 participants are expected, including high school students, university freshmen, educators, professionals and alumni from across the country.

“The participation of the first lady is very important. Her presence will be a great honour for our organisation,” said Sreymom.

“Her message to students — regardless of their family situation or the border conflict — is that they must persevere, strive and pursue what they love, especially in the context of Industry 5.0,” she added.

Now in its 12th edition, the Major and Career Fair continues to serve as a bridge between students and institutions, while also contributing to Cambodia’s broader human resource development agenda.
