Representatives from several Austrian companies are planning to visit Cambodia in the near future to explore investment opportunities, while the newly appointed Austrian ambassador pledged to further strengthen bilateral relations.
Ambassador Katharina Wieser presented her credentials to Senate president Hun Sen, acting head of state, on the morning of March 4.
Hun Sen welcomed the ambassador and expressed his hope that her diplomatic mission would further enhance the ties between the two nations, according to Senate spokesperson Chea Thyrith.
Wieser pledged to work diligently to cultivate and advance the relationship between Cambodia and Austria, noting that bilateral ties between the two nations are approaching their 70th anniversary, having been established in 1956.
“Ambassador Wieser will strive to further boost trade and investment between Cambodia and Austria. She announced that representatives from approximately ten Austrian companies will visit Cambodia to explore investment opportunities,” said Thyrith.
Hun Sen welcomed the upcoming visit by the Austrian business delegation. He expressed optimism that through these investors, as well as the new ambassador’s commitment, political ties, trade volume, economic cooperation and bilateral investments will continue to flourish.
According to Thyrith, Hun Sen also took the opportunity to explain the history of the current border disputes between Cambodia and Thailand. He noted that currently, both countries are making every effort to effectively maintain the ceasefire to ensure border stability and are resolving issues based on legal frameworks and mutual negotiations.
