The Svay Rieng Provincial Court has charged 9 suspects — Seven Vietnamese nationals and two Cambodians — in connection with a daring escape from the premises of the Svay Rieng Provincial Court on November 18.
In a press release issued today, November 27, a spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office attached to the Svay Rieng Provincial Court stated that the office has received the case file regarding the escape from the Minor Crimes Police Office of the Svay Rieng Provincial Police commissariat.
According to the release, the seven Vietnamese nationals charged are Pham Van Bao (Male, 29), Le Quang Thanh (Male, 30), Tran Thanh Hung (Male, 36), Duong Phuc Dat (Male, 26), Nguyen Van Son (Male, 28), Duong (Male, 38, at large), and Nguyen Thi Hai Van (Female, 27). Hai Van was the woman who passed a handgun to one of the prisoners, allowing them to shoot their way out of the court carpark, in a widely-viewed video.
The Cambodian suspects were identified as Keo Sothy, alias Thanh Phong (Male, 26), and another man, known only as Sin (27).
The statement noted that the nine suspects have been charged with initiating an escape with aggravating circumstances involving the use of weapons; escape with aggravating circumstances involving the use of weapons; unauthorised possession and trafficking of weapons (for foreigners); complicity in unauthorised trafficking of weapons (for foreigners); providing means for escape with aggravating circumstances; attempted murder; and intentional violence with aggravating circumstances.
The offenses were committed at the premises of the Svay Rieng Provincial Court in Svay Rieng town, and in Bavet city, Svay Rieng province, from November 16 to November 18, according to the statement.
