Over 20 officials from the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) received a two-day training programme on rehabilitation and occupational accident insurance (OAI). This collaborative initiative with the Korea Workers’ Compensation & Welfare Service (COMWEL) aimed to bolster worker and employee welfare in Siem Reap province.

From July 5-6, the NSSF conducted the workshop, aiming to augment comprehension of the OAI among officials stationed in the province. NSSF deputy director-general Heng Sophannarith, present at the July 5 workshop, underscored the workshop’s intent as capacity building for NSSF officials in relation to rehabilitation and OAI.

Sophannarith clarified, “The workshop also provides in-depth counselling for the NSSF’s five-year master plan for rehabilitation. This work took place at Empress Angkor Hotel in Siem Reap and was attended by 26 participants, including the NSSF leadership and the officials and representatives from COMWEL”.

He went on to express gratitude for the unwavering cooperation with COMWEL. He noted their steadfast commitment to ongoing support for the project.

“The Department of Rehabilitation and relevant departments need to pay close attention, continue to cooperate, and work closely with the COMWEL working group. This will ensure we carry out this formal rehabilitation development assistance project more efficiently and responsibly,” he said.

In 2022, COMWEL signed an agreement to execute the rehabilitation development assistance project with the NSSF, forming the basis for the five-year master plan.

In a social media post, the NSSF stated that it has held a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on work accident insurance with COMWEL since 2010, and they will continue to work in partnership on the project.

The NSSF elaborated: “This project is pivotal in enhancing productivity, the labour force, and reducing work accident-related poverty. It can bolster life quality by providing rehabilitation. Importantly, it will help deliver NSSF’s rehabilitation service to its members more efficiently and in a timely manner”.

It mentioned the three main services received by disabled NSSF members, namely, medical rehabilitation service, training and vocational rehabilitation service, and social rehabilitation service.
