Thailand is employing information warfare tactics and conducting a disinformation campaign to fabricate pretexts for its military aggression against Cambodia, all while falsely portraying itself as the victim, according to Cambodian officials.
Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra accused the Thai government, its military and media of colluding to spread false narratives aimed at demonising Cambodia and justifying Thailand’s violation of its territorial integrity.
“Both the Thai government, its military and media outlets have employed deceptive tactics to provoke incidents according to their premeditated invasion plans,” he said.
Pheaktra beleived the Thai military’s incursion into Cambodian territory was carefully planned well in advance.
The strategy, he added, involved launching a pre-emptive attack on Cambodian forces and then shifting the blame onto Cambodia.
“Cambodia tells the truth — Thailand lies to the world. Cambodia has no interest in invading Thailand,” Pheaktra insisted..
