Officers from the Anti-Drug Department were not on the guest list at a popular nightclub in the capital’s Chamkar Mon district last night, but decided to make an appearance anyway.
More than 250 people, both Cambodians and foreigners, were detained for questioning in connection with drug offenses after authorities burst into the Sky Cambodia club just after midnight this morning, October 16.
According to the Anti-Drug Department, during the operation, 62 Cambodians — including staff, sanitation workers and cooks — as well as 195 Chinese and Vietnamese nationals, were detained.
Authorities found and confiscated a large quantity of narcotics, drug-related paraphernalia and a significant number of mobile phones.
All 257 detainees are currently being held at the Anti-Drug Department for questioning and legal procedures.
The Phnom Penh Municipal Police also took part in the raid, which was directly commanded by Lt General Khoeng Sarath, director of the Anti-Drug Department.
The day before the raid, October 15, 10 separate busts across the Kingdom saw 26 people detained, with more than a kilogramme of methamphetamine (ice) seized.
