The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport has announced the recruitment of 250 youth volunteers and delegates to participate in this year’s ninth global youth camp, which will be held in Siem Reap this December.
The global youth camp is an initiative of Prime Minister Hun Sen, and is run with the support of Canadia Bank. It has been running since 2010, with breaks owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to an August 7 notice from the ministry, this year’s recruitment is limited to 250, with positions open to candidates from the 25 capital and provinces.
Young people from provincial regions are particularly encouraged to apply for the event, which will take place from December 11-16.
The notice explained that youth delegates must be in good health, aged 18 to 25 years old and be available to attend the orientation and training sessions that will be organised by the event committee.
They must be responsible individuals, and be prepared to adhere to the instructions of the committee.
The volunteers who participate in the programme will gain knowledge, build relationships and strengthen their leadership skills – while gaining experience in team work – as well as many other benefits.
Sroy Socheat, the ministry’s youth director-general said the Banteay Srei district was selected as the venue for the camp because the district is home to a number of small and exceptionally decorated temples.
“The district is favourably located at the foot of Kulen Mountain and has a large area of more than 30ha, which will allow us the space to host the camp and conduct many activities and sub-programmes.
“The global youth camp programme will benefit the participants by offering them behavioural change, positive thinking and skill development,” Socheat said.
