One Cambodian civilian was killed, and several others injured, when Thai soldiers opened fire with live ammunition this afternoon, November 12, in Banteay Meanchey province’s Prey Chan village, in Or Beichoan commune, O Chrov district, confirmed the provincial administration and Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra.
A spokesperson for the Banteay Meanchey provincial administration stated that Thai forces fired into tent shelters in Cambodian territory in the village, resulting in the death of one villager and injuries to many others.
Information minister Pheaktra announced just before 6pm that Thai soldiers were continuing to fire.
The provincial administration spokesperson condemned the “barbaric and cruel inhumane act”, noting that it clearly demonstrates that Thailand side has violated the Joint Statement on the Peace Agreement Between Cambodia and Thailand, which both nations signed on October 26, in the presence of US President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, chair of ASEAN.
“Cambodia adheres to the stance of respecting the mutual agreement between the two countries, by maintaining the status quo until land border demarcation work is completed, to reduce tension and await a resolution from the Joint Border Committee (JBC),” added the spokesperson.
