Thai caretaker Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has published private correspondence from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and rejected the latter’s proposal for a 10pm ceasefire last night.

In a Facebook post this afternoon, December 14, Anutin posted a copy of a note from Anwar which read: “My statement did not mention a ceasefire. I merely said – my suggestion to cease any provocations from 10 pm. I didn’t say that both parties have agreed”.

“This clearly proves that there was no plan nor agreement by the Thai Government to halt combat operations with our enemy as of 10pm last night. Thailand stands firm with our determination to preserve, protect and defend the integrity of our land and our people at all cost,” added Anutin.

On December 13, Anwar proposed that Thailand and Cambodia cease fighting by 10pm. The suggestion followed a call with US President Donald trump, who also called for a ceasefire and a return to the implementation of the October 26 Peace Accord, signed in Kuala Lumpur.

His proposal was accepted by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet in less than 30 minutes.

The Thai leadership reiterated that they would not cease fighting.
