The Ministry of Health has initiated leadership and innovation training for national and sub-national officials, aiming to enhance the capacity of leaders in promoting the growth of the health sector in the country.

Minister Chheang Ra is overseeing this initiative, according to the ministry. In the post, Ra underscored the significance of this training in advancing the implementation of the ministry’s strategies and priorities.

“This course aligns with the primary strategies and priorities established by the ministry. These include bolstering the infrastructure of health centres, ensuring a reliable supply of medicines, equipment and staff capacity, improving district referral hospitals for emergency care, updating surgical, laboratory and medical imaging services, and strengthening the leadership and capacity of officials at both the national and sub-national levels.

“These efforts are directly aimed at facilitating the government’s Pentagonal Strategy,” he was cited as saying in a social media post.

Nuth Sambath, president of the Institute of Medicine, Biology and Agriculture at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, pointed out on October 4 that this training plays a crucial role as it is akin to honing the mindsets and enhancing the capabilities of officials at the grassroots level to further advance the healthcare sector.

“Scientists require consistent education and training encompassing knowledge, medicine, administration and the complete range of management skills essential for their roles,” he stated.

“I endorse this initiative because ongoing education equips our officials with the most up-to-date information required to effectively serve as public health providers for the people. This is especially crucial for addressing and resolving healthcare sector issues promptly,” he added.

As per the health ministry, this course is being conducted via online video conferencing and includes almost 2,000 participants, comprising personnel from both national and sub-national levels.
