The Techo Sen Institute of Public Works and Transport recently organised an orientation workshop for high school students in Phnom Penh, aiming to help students set clear goals for selecting the right skills upon completing their high school education.
The event was presided over by Pranghang Sereirith, acting director of the institute, and attended by relevant officials, teachers and approximately 500 students.
According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, which oversees the institute, this initiative was designed to guide Grade 12 students in establishing clear career goals that align with market demands and their personal aspirations for education after high school graduation.
“This workshop serves the purpose of not only providing students with a deeper understanding and aiding them in making informed decisions when selecting their skills but also fostering and elevating the quality of education and the effectiveness of our institutions. Additionally, it contributes to broader recognition both nationally and internationally,” Sereirith detailed.
Kong Samneang, head of the Federation of Education Services in Cambodia, emphasised the importance of conducting educational orientation workshops in both public and private educational institutions. He stressed that these events are essential as they enable students to gain a better understanding and make informed choices regarding their skill development.
“If we consider Cambodia as a whole, the expanding sectors encompass construction, logistics, the public sector and transportation. Consequently, hosting such workshops aligns with market demands, as the nation requires a skilled workforce in these areas to meet current and future developments,” he explained on October 8.
He also suggested that leaders in both public and private educational institutions expand this kind of workshop. He encouraged students as well to seek a better understanding of the skills required in the job market to enhance their chances of securing good employment with competitive salaries.
The Techo Sen Institute of Public Works and Transport is a public higher education institution offering six major skills to students. Currently, the institution has three generations of students.
These majors include Road, Highway, Bridge, Railway and Port Construction, Wastewater Treatment System, Economics and Land Transport Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Ship Piloting and Shipbuilding.
