The year in which Cambodia will host the 4th Asian Youth Games, originally scheduled for 2029, has been officially delayed until 2031, according to Vath Chamroeun, secretary-general of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), on Sunday.
According to the NOCC, Chamroeun — who is currently leading the Cambodian delegation at the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain — stated that the change was recommended by the executive committee of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The change is in line with permanent adjustments to the event’s scheduling.
“The OCA asked Cambodia to postpone its hosting because the Asian Youth Games schedule will change permanently,” noted Chamroeun.
“Prime Minister Hun Manet has already approved the request,” said Chamroeun.
“[Hosting] is a great source of pride for Cambodia, as the Kingdom continues to receive recognition from the international community and leadership of the Asian and International Olympic movements, who have shown confidence in Cambodia’s ability to organise the Asian Youth Games in 2031,” he added.
Chamroeun noted that Cambodia remains committed to making the event a success, to promote national pride and prestige through sports.
Speaking as head of the Cambodian delegation at the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, he also expressed his gratitude to the Cambodian people and all levels of leadership for their encouragement and support of the country’s athletes.
