The Khmer Boxing Federation (KBF) has appointed Nin Vanda as acting secretary-general, replacing Sien Sopheak, who submitted his resignation on September 19. The appointment was made at AEON Mall 3 on November 17.
Khov Chhay, KBF president, personally handed the appointment letter to Vanda during the Monday morning ceremony. He affirmed that Vanda is qualified to serve in the role.
He outlined his expectations in his November 17 decision letter.
“Nin Vanda must demonstrate his full commitment, take on responsibility for his duties and strive to ensure the successful implementation of each of his tasks,” it said.
Chhay instructed the federation’s executive committee to collaborate closely with Vanda. He added that any other decisions outside the announcement are considered void, and that the decision came into official effect from the signing date, November 17.
Khov Chhay emphasised that the appointment was appropriate based on Vanda’s capacity, and the executive committee unanimously agreed to the selection.
“We held an internal meeting because we recognised Vanda’s capability. He has previously served in the secretariat for two or three mandates, so he understands all tasks within the secretariat as well as various administrative procedures,” he told The Post on November 17.
“Additionally, he has served as a judge within groups assigned to officiate matches at different stations and in various provinces for two mandates as well. He understands the technical aspects of the work too. He understands both the secretariat’s responsibilities and technical duties. Therefore, we believe his candidacy is truly suitable for the position,” he added.
Chhay asserted that the appointment does not violate the federation’s statute for the 8th mandate (2025–2029), which stipulates that the secretary-general may not be selected from within the executive committee.
“Appointing Vanda does not violate the federation’s statute. After the latest amendment, the statute specifies that the secretary-general cannot be part of the executive committee. Since Vanda is not one of the 19 committee members, there is no issue. He is simply an officer of the federation, not an executive committee member,” he explained.
