The Ministry of Environment identified more than 50 species of wild orchids during a recent field survey in Koh Kong province, including one specimen that researchers suspect could represent a new national record. The ministry explained that researchers collected more than 115 orchid samples during the survey. Initial analysis indicates the specimens represent over 50 different species, highlighting the rich biodiversity of Cambodia’s tropical forests. The Ministry of Environment, WCS Cambodia and representatives of indigenous communities have signed REDD+ benefit-sharing agreements for the fifth phase of the Keo Seima REDD+ project. The agreement is valued at approximately $1 million, which will be shared by 20 target villages of indigenous and local communities. The Ministry of Environment has welcomed the news that two large mango processing plants have installed treatment systems to prevent untreated wastewater from entering surrounding water sources. One of the two wads previously fined for pollution. The Ministry of Environment is working with the CamAdapt Project to strengthen climate adaptation and diversify livelihoods in more than 82,000 hectares of ecosystems and 16 community protected areas (CPAs) along the Kingdom’s coast.
