Firefighters were able to extinguish a blaze at a Phnom Penh ice-making facility which erupted into flames last night and prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby community. They also employed a ventilation truck to disperse the ammonia vapour which was leaking onto the air. The incident occurred when an ammonia pipe ruptured. Forest rangers from the Pursat Provincial Department of Environment have identified two suspects linked to the illegal clearing of roughly 17 hectares of protected forest land. Officials dismantled seven makeshift shelters used by the offenders and removed more than 30 traps and snares. At least five near-extinct fish species have been handed over by local fishers to fisheries officers and partner organisations for release back into their natural habitats over the past two weeks. This reflects growing awareness nationwide about participating in the conservation of natural resources.
