Forest rangers in Koh Kong province freed a pair of Bengal monitor lizards and seized wildlife snares and nets designed to catch birds during recent patrols of three protected areas in the province. During a December 4 patrol, rangers dismantled an illegal campsite in the Tatai Wildlife Sanctuary in Thmar Bang district. Stashes of timber, including expensive pieces of agarwood, as well as five locations of illegally encroached and cleared land were discovered in multiple-use zones and the Prey Lang Forest in Kratie province since November 30. A Chinese driver was fined after cargo fell from a pickup truck he was driving on the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway on Wednesday, December 3.
