Cambodia’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism jointly organised a recent two-day regional Seminar on Realizing Carbon Neutral Port in the ASEAN Region to enhance understanding of carbon-neutral port development among all port operators and related sectors in the ASEAN region.
The workshop, held on December 10-11, gathered around 140 participants, including delegations from ASEAN member states such as Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Singapore, as well as the ASEAN Secretariat, Japan’s Overseas Coastal Area Development Institute (OCDI), relevant ministries and institutions, representatives from private companies and numerous port engineers.
Transport ministry permanent secretary of state Koy Sodany, Japanese ambassador Ueno Atsushi and Kanemaru Keisuke, director of the International Policy Planning Office at Japan’s transport ministry, jointly presided over the December 10 opening ceremony.
Sodany briefed the workshop on three important strategic documents being developed by Cambodia’s transport to strengthen the efficiency of the port sector.
They include the development Framework for the Establishment and Management of Port Business Centers (2025–2033), guidelines for Developing Port Master Plans, Technical Standards for Cambodian Ports, and Regional Port Planning, supported by JICA and the ongoing Master Plan to transform Sihanoukville Autonomous Port into a regional-level port and logistics hub by 2025
The Japanese embassy to Cambodia noted that the Japan’s policies on Carbon-Neutral Ports, as well as related technologies and initiatives from the private sector were introduced at the event.
