The number of civilians killed as a result of Thai aggression has risen to 17, with at least 77 people injured as of 6pm on December 16. The two latest civilian deaths occurred at a safe centre in Koh Kong province, according to the Ministry of Interior.
It added that the number of civilians displaced by the fighting now totalled 438, 953, two-thirds of them women and children.
There has also been extensive damage to civilian infrastructure. As of December 16, the Thai attacks that began on December 7 had damaged 51 civilian homes, one school, one health centre, one ancient temple, four pagodas, one charity hall, one monks’ residence and one customs and excise office building.
In addition, damage was reported to four casino buildings, three hotels, a community agricultural centre, one stone bridge, one steel bridge, one bridgehead and petrol station.
Public services, including administration, healthcare and education at the municipal, district and commune levels have been almost entirely suspended, due to Thailand’s intensified attacks on civilian areas by land, water, and air.
The Ministry of National Defence reported at 6.25am on December 17, Thai forces continued their attacks on Cambodia in Military Region 5, using F-16 fighter jets to drop bombs in the area of Prey Chan village.
