Cambodia has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting the use banned substances in sport, emphasising that the true essence of sport should not be defined merely by breaking records or winning medals, but by upholding the principles and values of effort, perseverance and fair victory.
Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, shared the Kingdom’s commitment as he addressed the 10th Conference and 20th Anniversary of the International Convention Against Doping in Sport at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France, today, October 21.
As the chair of the Cambodian Anti-Doping Agency (CADA), Naron highlighted the significance of the 20th anniversary as a moment to reflect on two decades of global progress in protecting values, ethics and integrity.
He believed that the principles of integrity and fairness should be embedded in the foundation of all sporting systems worldwide, adding that the new WADA Code demonstrates a shared global commitment to uphold these principles.
Naron noted that since Cambodia ratified the convention in 2007, the Royal Government of Cambodia has undertaken numerous measures to strengthen the national anti-doping institution (CADA), establish regulatory frameworks, and promote awareness and education among all relevant stakeholders about the dangers of using banned substances.
“Cambodia strongly supports the UNESCO Convention, the WADA Code and international standards, and is committed to establishing a National Compliance Platform aligned with the principles of the Integrity Ecosystem,” he said.
This platform will be personally led by Naron, and will include key stakeholders — notably the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia and national sporting federations.
As a state party, Cambodia supports the revised 2027 WADA Code, as well as newly proposed mechanisms for the Global Sports Integrity Ecosystem.
As part of the 10th Conference and 20th Anniversary programme, the minister delivered a national statement on Cambodia’s anti-doping efforts and took part in congratulating the newly elected chair of the Approval Committee for the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport.
The event, held from October 20 to 22, 2025, is being attended by 60 state parties from Europe and Asia, including about 300 participants and 30 ministers from member states.
Naron expressed his gratitude to SEARADO, WADA and the International Testing Agency (ITA) for their dedicated support in capacity building and strengthening Cambodia’s national anti-doping agency (CADA) to ensure compliance with international standards.
