Cambodia, alongside 118 other nations, is participating in the 19th World Education Forum to find solutions to common challenges in the fields of education and technical training.
The forum – held under the theme “New Beginnings: Nurturing a Learning Culture, Building Resilience, Promoting Sustainability. Stronger, Bolder, Better Education by Design” – is taking place in London from May 7-10 and attended by representatives from governments, the private sector, education and skills training specialists and development partners from the 118 countries.
Minister of Labour and Vocational Training Ith Samheng said the joint talks aim to share experiences in education, seek input into policy development associated with resilient education and training, and update the development of skills and up-to-date technology.
“This forum is the largest gathering of education and technical education leaders in the world,” he said, adding that they aim to contribute to better economic development through better education, globally, regionally and nationally.
Kin Phea, director of the International Relations Institute at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, believed that working together to build human resources and technical skills was crucial to moving toward the development of technology, as well as the socio-economic development of Cambodia, and indeed the rest of the world.
“Technical and vocational training plays an important role in the development of the national economy. People need specific skills to be able to fully participate in the workforce. Many people still do not fully understand the importance of this kind of training yet. It is necessary for all countries to consider this issue,” he said.
The 19th World Education Forum is being held in collaboration with the UK’s Ministries of Education, Commerce and Foreign Affairs, alongside the British Council.
In addition to joint discussions, participants will also deliver speeches and exchange views at the ministerial level. Informal discussions will take place, and the forum will provide opportunities to build networks.
