The Ministry of Information has observed that Thailand has disseminated false and distorted information regarding the situation along the Cambodia–Thailand border after many Facebook accounts were created by Thai actors using Khmer names and writing in the Khmer language. The accounts were created to spread fake, distorted and misleading information, aimed at provoking Cambodia into responding.
On the morning of Monday, December 8, information minister Neth Pheaktra called on the public to exercise extreme caution — not to share or believe suspicious information. He urged that such accounts be reported to Facebook or blocked immediately.
“We urge the public to follow information only from official sources, in order to obtain accurate and truthful information. The ministry, together with state and private media, will cooperate with the Ministry of National Defence and other relevant institutions to continuously share factual information with the public,” he said.
The Royal Government also announced that claims made by the official Thai military page and some Thai media outlets — alleging that Cambodia initiated the shooting and used heavy weapons along the border — are fake.
Cambodian forces stated that Thai troops launched attacks first on the morning of December 8, 2025, starting from 5am. This action followed numerous provocative incidents carried out by Thai forces in previous days, especially an incident yesterday at Prolean Thmar, intentionally aimed at escalating tensions.
Standing firm on the spirit of respecting all mutually agreed-upon treaties and resolving conflicts peacefully and in accordance with international law, Cambodian forces did not return fire during this second incident, and continue to carefully and closely monitor the evolving situation.
Cambodia has already informed the ASEAN Observers (AOT) for the second time about this incident and intends to request that AOT visit the area to conduct investigations to uncover the truth and ensure transparency, justice and accuracy.
