Chea Vandeth, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, has underscored the vital role of digital reform in enhancing workflow efficiency within governmental structures.
Vandeth conveyed this during a comprehensive presentation entitled ‘Cambodia’s Journey Towards Digital Transformation’, delivered to an audience of 790 education officials and students at the Royal School of Administration on June 15.
In his lecture, Vandeth elucidated the organisational framework of governmental ministries in the context of digital reform. The blueprint for this transformation incorporates advancements in Industry 4.0, a digital economy and society framework for 2021-2035, and the digital government policy for 2022-2035. These components collectively serve as a roadmap for improving public service delivery.
Vandeth emphasised the necessity of a robust digital transformation unit during the initial phase of governmental digital transformation. This unit would facilitate network connections at sub-national levels, device preparation, data centre creation, and the formulation of digital planning and action plans for each ministry and institution.
He highlighted the crucial role of skilled human resources in driving digital transformation, accentuating the importance of strengthening and fostering competition within digital sectors.
Further plans include connecting optic cables to commune halls, schools, hospitals and other populous areas, as well as establishing Community Tech Centres.
The minister stated that his ministry aimed to support internet infrastructure and connection, digital centres, and the management of universities and higher education institutions, both private and public. He also noted the provision of thousands of digital scholarships annually.
Additionally, he shed light on various facets of digital transformation, including the launch of a document verification platform, verify.gov.kh, for numerous ministries and institutions.
