Prime Minister Hun Sen on February 10 signed a directive authorising the Ministry of National Defence to recruit 350 military personnel to “fulfil the framework” of a “BMP1” intervention force and an armoured unit under the Bodyguard Command, at the request of Defence Minister Tea Banh.
This follows a similar directive signed by the premier in April 2022 authorising the ministry to recruit 402 military personnel to set up a medium-range air defence unit under the Air Defence Command.
Two months later, Hun Sen authorised the ministry to recruit 600 military personnel to “fulfil the framework” of three newly formed battalions under the Artillery Command.
In August 2021, he authorised the ministry to recruit 47 military personnel to a unit in Kampot province’s Bokor town soon after its establishment.
