On the eve of the New Year, Prime Minister Hun Sen hopes Cambodians across the country continue to adhere to the measures to prevent the Covid-19 by following the three dos, and three don’ts measures to prevent the spread of this virus.
He wrote on his social media on the night of December 31, 2022: “Happy New Year 2023, I wish all Cambodians good health, happiness, prosperity, longevity and success in all endeavours.”
The prime minister added, “Please drive carefully and be safe to travel everywhere, especially to maintain good health, please adhere to three dos and three don’ts measures to protect the Covid-19 together.”
At the same time, on the occasion of visiting children who are victims abuse and sexual trafficking at AFESIP Cambodia on the morning of January 1, 2023, Prime Minister Hun Sen also spoke about the new year celebration which was held almost everywhere.
“The Cambodian people celebrate the New Year without fear but celebrate the new year safely and it was not disturbed by the war, which is a peaceful achievement that we all share in together. Our people are happy and without fear,” he said.
“Even though I am not going anywhere and I am staying at home this evening, I am happy because our country can celebrate like other countries and we have all made this progress together as a nation,” he said.
Just a day prior, the prime minister announced that the vaccination policies in the Kingdom for Covid-19 would be adjusted to allow all adults and children over the age of 12 to get booster shots every six months for the foreseeable future due to the resurgence of infections in the region, particularly in China.
“At the moment, Covid-19 in some areas is resurging. If we do not take specific measures by getting vaccinated there may be misconceptions [about the current state of the pandemic] and it could lead to a risk of recurrence and affect the health of the Cambodian people,” he said.
The Ministry of Health announced a fourth booster dose for children from three years old to five years old and a fifth dose for children from five years old to 12 years old.
According to a report by the health ministry, as of December 31, 2022, the vaccination rate for the Kingdom’s population of approximately 16 million people stands at 95.26 per cent with 15 million having received at least one dose, 14 million having received two doses, 10 million with three doses, 4.7 million with four doses and 1.2 million with five doses.
