The International Labour Organization (ILO) and Cambodia Team for Education Program (CTEP) recently organised a series of provincial career fairs in Kampong Cham, Battambang and Banteay Meanchey to inform industry representatives, educators, students, government officials and job seekers about future work trends and address the issue of skills mismatch in the labour market.
The three job fairs attracted 3,693 attendees, where over 1,700 job opportunities across various industries were presented.
The events were organised to create an environment that enables young people to access decent employment opportunities while ensuring that no one is left behind, according to a February 28 joint press release.
CTEP director Chhun Soksan stated that the provincial career fairs aimed to bridge jobseekers and employers and served as a one-stop event to share knowledge and experience with jobseekers, especially youth.
“We supported different target groups like persons with disabilities, the LGBT community, youth and young women to attend these fairs, to ensure that they are not left behind because we know that to achieve inclusive employment, we want all people to get involved,” Sokkan said.
“We hope that these young jobseekers gain access to decent employment opportunities and those that are studying gain employment prospects and are equipped for the future,” he added.
ILO national coordinator for Cambodia Tun Sophorn said that the fairs served as important networking platforms among different actors to foster multilateral cooperation. This is to ensure that those at risk of being left behind gain access to decent and productive employment through these inclusive services.
