The work on the asphalt and concrete on Russian Boulevard – from the intersection with Monivong Blvd to the Cham Chao interchange east of Phnom Penh International Airport – in preparation for the upcoming ASEAN Summit is 90 per cent finished.
Phnom Penh deputy governor Keut Che said authorities had been repairing the asphalt and concrete on heavy traffic roads such as Russian Blvd and Sisowath Quay in the city centre, as well as the streets leading to Sokha Hotel on the Chroy Changvar peninsula, where many VIPs stay during the summit.
“During the ASEAN summit, we would request that our people help the municipal administration in maintaining our country’s honour,” he said.
City Hall spokesman Met Meas Pheakdey said the planned road repairing ahead of the summit is up to 90 per cent complete and the nation is now prepared to welcome delegates from around the world.
“Before the ASEAN Summit begins, all of this work must be done 100 per cent. We are not sure when it will be ready precisely, but we know for sure all of the work will be finished before the meetings,” he said.
The spokesman noted that there had been no problems or serious delays with the road work, so the remaining 10 per cent or so would be finished within three to four days.
Cambodia will host the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and related meetings from November 8 to 13.
