Sunrise Cambodia will transform compassion into action as children, staff and members of the local community come together to pack emergency food supplies for families recently displaced and left with little to nothing this Sunday.
What makes this effort extraordinary is not just the aid itself — but who is giving it, noted a press release.
The children of Sunrise Cambodia, many of whom arrived after experiencing hardship, loss, and unsafe living conditions, have taken the lead.
Alongside donated rice and noodles from Sunrise’s own stock, and additional food items purchased through the generosity of staff and the local community, the children have begun donating their own treasured possessions — toys, pocket money, and personal items — to help families in crisis, said the release.
“These children know what it feels like to go without,” said Tracey Shelton, Sunrise Cambodia country director.
“They know what it means to lose everything. Their empathy is not taught — it comes from lived experience. Watching them give so freely has made us all so proud,” she added.
The children and staff of the NGO will work side by side to prepare food packs, turning the packing process itself into a lesson in kindness, dignity and shared humanity.
Distribution will take place from January 1-3, delivered directly to displaced families by volunteer staff members alongside Sunrise Cambodia’s Child Committee, ensuring children’s voices remain at the heart of the response.
“This initiative is a powerful reminder of the strength of Cambodian communities — and of the resilience and generosity that can grow even from the most difficult beginnings,” said the release.
