Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet held a phone call with US President Donald Trump on July 26, to address the ongoing armed clashes along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
President Trump urged “an immediate, unconditional ceasefire to prevent further casualties,” a proposal that Cambodia endorsed. Trump later confirmed that Thailand had also agreed to the ceasefire.
“I just had a very good call with the Prime Minister of Cambodia, and informed him of my discussions with Thailand, and its Acting Prime Minister. Both Parties are looking for an immediate Ceasefire and Peace,” he wrote on Truth Social.
“They have agreed to immediately meet and quickly work out a Ceasefire and, ultimately, PEACE! It was an Honor to deal with both Countries,” he added. “When all is done, and Peace is at hand, I look forward to concluding our Trading Agreements with both.”
Cambodia designated Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn to collaborate with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to coordinate the ceasefire’s implementation.
Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed gratitude to President Trump for his mediation, stating that it “would help save lives and allow refugees to return home safely.”
