UNFPA, the UN sexual and reproductive health agency, has provided 900 dignity kits for distribution in Cambodia to ensure the well-being of the most-at-risk women and girls. The initiative addresses the needs of women and girls impacted by displacement.
A September 2 press release by the agency explained that during humanitarian emergencies, women and girls face heightened risks including the risks of violence and exploitation, lack of access to water and sanitation and interrupted services and support.
It warned that often during emergencies, the health and hygiene needs of women and girls can be overlooked. It therefore provided dignity kits those in need through its partners.
A total of 680 dignity kits are handed over to Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) to be distributed through the CRC’s extensive network to the most remote communities affected by disasters, most notably the displacement caused by the recent border clashes.

Another 220 kits were handed over to Provincial Departments of Women’s Affairs offices in Preah Vihear province to support GBV survivors in areas affected by displacement and who may be further impacted by natural disasters.
Each kit contains essential hygiene supplies, clothing and vital information on sexual and reproductive health and rights and information on where to get help if women experience violence, according the release.
“During difficult times, women and girls’ health needs remain, including their menstrual health and hygiene needs. Dignity kits help women and girls at a time when they need support they provide a few essential supplies to help them during these difficult times,” said Sandra Bernklau, UNFPA Cambodia representative.
UNFPA has been a key partner in Cambodia since 1993. Its mission is to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, every woman and girl is free from violence, and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.
