Keo Chhea, Cambodian ambassador to the UN in New York, has informed UN secretary-general António Guterres about Thailand’s violations of the recent ceasefire, including the Thai military’s use of razor wire barricades to prevent Cambodian people from accessing their homes, according to Chum Sounry, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Speaking at this afternoon’s August 29 daily press briefing on the border situation, Sounry explained that Chhea also reiterated to Guterres that Cambodia has not planted new landmines, as alleged by Thailand.
“During the meeting, the Cambodian ambassador shared a visual report which showed members of the Thai armed forces placing razor wire in Cambodian villages, as well as images prepared by CMAC that explain the different between new and old landmines,” he added.
