The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport have partnered to conduct a two-day workshop to enhance school health in the country’s general education institutions.
This initiative, which took place from June 6-7 in Siem Reap province, aims to improve the quality of education by nurturing the well-being of students and their families.
Thon Syna, deputy director of the Siem Reap provincial Department of Education, emphasised the importance of the workshop, saying it would empower participants with operational knowledge, enabling them to self-assess their institutions and develop master health plans.
“The education ministry welcomes the participation of the target schools in the cooperation on health promotion,” he said.
The workshop is also aimed at promoting school health, contributing to the human resource development of Cambodia, according to Nargiza Khodjaeva, WHO representative in Cambodia.
The Department of School Health director Chhay Kim Sotheavy expressed hope that the workshop would facilitate preparation for nationwide health sector plans and model schools.
Heng Vanda, chairman of the Cambodian Higher Education Association, voiced his support for the initiative. He said it was importance in ensuring safety, health, and hygiene in educational institutions, crucial for training Cambodia’s future human resources.
