Minister of National Defence Tea Banh, who also heads the Cambodia SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC), said the biennial multi-sports event hosted by the Kingdom this year has a total of 37 sports in Phnom Penh and across four provinces: Preah Sihanouk, Kep, Kampot and Siem Reap.
Tea Banh made the remarks at an April press conference on the SEA Games at Morodok Techo National Stadium.
“Overall, we have 37 sports, and we have the four provinces acting as venues,” he said.
He noted that there are 586 events divided between the 37 sports. Cambodia has 5,151 medals available on hand for the winners in gold, silver and bronze.
CAMSOC secretary-general Vath Chamroeun said that nine sports will have their competitions take place at Morodok Techo National Stadium: Gymnastics, hockey, badminton, martial arts such as jujitsu, kickboxing, L’bokator, kun Khmer and vovinam, basketball, tennis, table tennis and swimming.
The 37 sports featured at the SEA Games include Gymnastics, swimming, badminton, basketball, billiards and snooker, world boxing, Chinese chess and chess, cricket, cycling, dancing, e-sports, fencing, football, golf, hockey, jet skiing, judo and karate.
Meanwhile, leaders of the capital and provinces are preparing public viewing areas with projectors to broadcast the Cambodian national football team live for the 32nd SEA Games on the evening of April 29.
The national football team’s matches will have public viewing areas in Phnom Penh, Kampot, Siem Reap, Kampong Cham and some other provinces.
The men’s football match between Cambodia and Timor-Leste is due to start at 7pm on April 29 at National Olympic Stadium.
Phnom Penh will have seven public viewing areas with large screens and projectors for people to gather and watch the matches for free in different parts of the city. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The Siem Reap Provincial Administration said that part of its participation in the SEA Games include enlisting companies and restaurants to organise additional venues for viewing sports competitions and also holding screenings of important events outdoors on Pub Street, in addition to 12 other locations from April 29 to May 16.
