Local residents and authorities have marked the annual anniversary ceremony of the ordination of Preah Vihear province’s Prey Preah Roka forest. This year’s March 2 to 3 event also included a memorial ceremony for a mother elephant and her calf that were killed by shrapnel from Thai artillery rounds in last December’s fighting. Officials from the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training conducted a March 3 inspection of a Kandal province garment factory, after reports that at least 19 workers passed out at around 3pm the same day. Ministry spokesperson Sun Mesa said officers from the Department of Occupational Health and Safety, along with Kandal provincial officials and other relevant specialists, visited the facility, located on National Road 6 in Kandal village, Prek Anhchanh commune, Mukh Kampoul district, immediately after receiving the reports. A 47-year-old Swiss national has been arrested and charged with multiple sexual offences against an eight-year-old girl in Phnom Penh. The February 20 arrest followed a months-long cross-border investigation involving authorities from Australia and Switzerland, as well as the Cambodian National Police, explained a March 2 statement from child protection agency APLE Cambodia (Action Pour Les Enfants). The Ministry of Environment has ordered the solid waste landfill in Takeo province’s Don Keo town to immediately halt all burning of trash at the site and issued a fine after they caused environmental damage, impacting the livelihoods of local residents. The number of people employed in Cambodia increased to approximately 10.7 million in 2025, an increase of around 800,000 people over 2024, according to the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training. Of the total, about 2.8 million workers were employed in the agricultural sector, 3 million in industry and 4.9 million in the services sector.
