Six schools of the 35 nationwide entrants have been selected as winners of the “Eco-Friendly School” competition for 2025 — an initiative that the Ministry of Environment described as recognising and encouraging schools’ efforts to implement Cambodia’s environmental education and sustainability principles. The 14th edition of the Chaktomuk Short Film Festival (CSFF) concluded on Sunday, October 19 after four days of screenings and discussions that highlighted the growing creativity and dynamism of Cambodia’s emerging filmmakers. More than 120,000 Cambodians were affected by flooding in the first nine months of year, according to the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM). Tragically, 20 people lost their lives to flash floods and rising river levels, 12 of them children. The Preah Sihanouk provincial police have warned the public about the risks of vehicles fitted with fake base transceiver station (BTS) message-sending equipment, which can be used to steal information or take control of electronic devices such as victims’ mobile phones. A three-year-old girl has fully recovered from a case of pneumonia caused by the H5N1 avian influenza virus after being treated at Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital in Phnom Penh. A Wednesday, October 22, announcement from the hospital explained that the girl, from Kamong Speu, was referred to the hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia. In the first nine months of the year, the Ministry of Interior investigated 147 cases of human trafficking and the sex trade. According to ministry spokesperson Touch Sokhak, 205 suspects were arrested and sent to court. On October 22, he noted that 19 of the suspects were foreigners, while 37 of the total were female.
