The remains of a fossilised tree estimated to be between 100,000 years and two million years old has been excavated in Stung Treng province. Almost 20 of its estimated 30 metre length has been uncovered, and be used for research, as well as to promote eco-tourism for local indigenous people. Ministry of Environment officials are assessing the environmental impact of a freight train derailment which took place near Battambang town on August 16. According to the ministry, the northbound train was carrying four oil tankers, each loaded with 36,000 litres of diesel. About 70,000 litres spilled, of which roughly 10,000 litres were collected by local residents. A total of 4,312 drug-related offenses were suppressed in the first half of 2025 — an increase of 13% — with over 10,000 arrests carried out.
