Conservation organisations in Cambodia and the Ministry of Environment have released a message marking World Elephant Day on August 12, with the goal of raising awareness of the importance of protecting Cambodia’s wild elephant population. A Labour Forum campaign saw more than 110,000 job opportunities advertised to the public and Cambodian workers returning from Thailand, resulting in over 60,000 people securing employment within just 10 days. The campaign was organised by the National Employment Agency (NEA) of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, in cooperation with local authorities. The Ministry of Environment calculates that it prevented more than 10 million cubic metres of untreated wastewater from being discharged into and polluting public water sources during the first seven months of 2025. Cambodian workers returning from Thailand are not required to have a Cambodian National ID card to apply for work or register with the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
