The Documentation Center of Cambodia (DC-Cam) held a special memorial ceremony at Wat Langka on May 27. The event honoured unknown victims of the Khmer Rouge regime who have no surviving relatives. An 8-year-old boy suffering from a severe case of dengue fever has recovered after receiving life-saving treatment at Jayavarman VII Hospital in Siem Reap. The boy was among more 300 cases of dengue that have been reported in Preah Vihear province so far this year. The boy, from Koulen Tbong commune in Koulen district, was rushed to the hospital on May 25 after being referred from the 16 Makara Referral Hospital. A specialised team from the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) safely destroyed 45 pieces of unexploded ordnance (UXO) in a controlled explosion on May 28. The war-era munitions were buried in a rice field in Treal village, of Thma Puok district’s Kok Kathin commune. A local farmer unearthed one of the UXOs while ploughing the field and immediately reported his find to the authorities. A team from CMAC conducted a search and identified two pits containing 45 munitions in total. NatureLife Cambodia has announced plans to reforest more than 1,700 hectares of land in Mondulkiri province that was illegally cleared. Their operations will be supported by the Lumphat Wildlife Sanctuary REDD+ Project. ASEAN released an April 10 joint statement seekinga common dialogue with the US under the ASEAN-US Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA), an agreement which by which all ASEAN members states accept a joint track to negotiate with the US.
