Kim Chang Yong, South Korean ambassador to Cambodia, has invited a Cambodian delegation to visit Korea this coming June to promote the Kingdom’s investment landscape, potentially attracting Korean investors. Cambodia will have additional Special Economic Zone (SEZ) administrations and new SEZs, all of which will play an important role in increasing the country’s attractiveness to investors and encouraging more direct investment into Cambodia. Cambodia and China have signed an agreement that will see the export of $35 million worth of cashew nuts in the shell. The quantity is tipped to rise to as much as $400 million in the future. A March 11 meeting at the Ministry of Commerce saw the signing of the “Supply Contract of Cambodian Cashew Nuts” memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the China Bonded Port Group Co., Ltd. and Men Sarun MDR Co., Ltd. More than 100 investment projects, with a total investment of almost $1 billion, were approved by the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) in the first two months of the year. Almost half of the investment capital comes from China. According to a March 11 CDC press release, the council approved 105 projects with a total capital of about $966 million. China is the largest source of goods for Cambodia. In the first two months of 2026, goods imported from China to Cambodia were valued at nearly $3.3 billion, an increase of more than one-third over the same period in 2024. The amount Cambodia spent on imports from China accounted for more than half of its total spending on imports. Despite global political and economic conditions, as well as trade pressure caused by border tensions, the Kingdom’s international trade has not declined. Instead, it recorded growth of nearly 20% during the first two months of 2026.
