The Svay Rieng Provincial Court has ordered that 27 Chinese nationals be placed in pre-trial detention in a case involving conspiracy, online scams, violating the integrity of a corpse and drug use, in Bavet town, Svay Rieng province. Plan International Cambodia has reported strong new evidence of progress in reducing Child, Early and Forced Marriage and Unions (CEFMU) in Ratanakkiri and Stung Treng provinces, based on findings from the end-line study and final evaluation of its “Time to Act!” project. The initiative was implemented in 86 villages and focused on advancing adolescent girls’ rights, improving access to education, strengthening protection systems and promoting economic empowerment. A conservation organisation has expressed concerns over the poisoning of wildlife, especially during the dry season, as it can kill large numbers of animals in a short period of time. It also highlighted the severe health impacts that consuming poisoned animals can have on humans. Japan has provided funding for the “Promoting Employment of Returning Migrant Workers Affected by the Border Conflict” project. Following the recent discovery of two Royal Turtle nests, a conservation team is guarding the eggs and will monitor their hatching to ensure a high survival rate. The nests were discovered on a sandy beach at Prek Kampong Leu, in Koh Kong province’s Sre Ambel creek system, the only Cambodian habitat of the species.
